Robin Roussel was crowned champion of the Mena Tour Troon Series Royal Golf Club Open which was held at The Royal Golf Club over the past three days.
The Frenchman posted rounds of 65 (-7), 66 (-6) and 73 (+1) for a total score of 204 (-12) winning by one shot over Englishmen Joshua Grenville-Wood and James Allan who were tied for second on 205 (-11).
Englishman Jamie Elson, who is based in Bahrain as a coach, was in fourth position on 206 (-10) and had a final round of 64 (-8), the lowest round of the week.
This was the final event of The Troon Series, which is held at Troon Golf facilities throughout the Middle East.
The winner of the series was England’s Matthew Baldwin, who will now receive an invitation to the European Tour’s Maybank Championship, held at Soujana Golf & Country Club in Kuala Lumpur next week.
Meanwhile, Roussel finished in second place in the Troon Series to get an invitation to The Trophee Hassan II at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam in Morocco in April.
Jordan’s 14-year-old superstar Shergo Al Kurdi was the top regional player with a score of 222 (+6), closely followed by Saudi Arabian amateurs Saud Al Sharif and Abdelrahman Al Mansour.
The field of players was made up of top professional golfers from all over the world, many of have come to Bahrain for the first time.
This is the highest profile golf event in Bahrain since the 2011 Volvo Championship which saw Englishman Paul Casey emerge victorious.
