Abu Dhabi: A low-dose aspirin tablet used to treat pain and reduce fever or inflammation went off shelves in the United Arab Emirates.
The Ministry of Health and Prevention announced the withdrawal of Jusprin 81 mg tablet for failing to comply with the required regulatory standards, reported WAM.
Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Policies and Licensing Sector and Vice President of the Higher Committee of Drug Registration and Pricing in the Ministry of Health Dr. Amin Hussein Amiri issued a circular in this regard.
Jusprin 81 mg tablet, a drug manufactured by Gulf Pharmaceutical Industries (Julphar), is sometimes prescribed is sometimes used to treat or prevent heart attacks, strokes, and chest pain angina.
According to the circular, the manufacturing company failed to commit to the guidelines set by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Health Council.
The ministry directed the supplier to withdraw the drug for the public and private establishments and urged health professionals and pharmacists to stop using prescribing the medicine and return the stocks.
