Manama: Eighty per cent of those benefitting from meat subsidies before they were scrapped were expatriates, companies and restaurants, Information, Parliament and Shura Council Affairs Minister Isa Al Hammadi told a Press conference at Gudaibiya Palace yesterday.
Mr Al Hammadi, who is also the official government spokesman, said Bahraini shoppers accounted for just 20pc of subsidised meat purchases – and claimed direct payments into their bank accounts as compensation were of more benefit .
