Manama: There was a glaring absence of red meat at the Manama and Muharraq central markets yesterday, after butchers refused to pay higher prices for non-subsidised beef and mutton.
Government meat subsidies were lifted yesterday and butchers baulked at the increased cost of purchasing produce from the Bahrain Livestock Company – the country’s main supplier of meat products .
