A couple's story has gone viral after they broke up during a public holiday in Southwest China. It all started when the couple were about to check in at the hotel, but Ms Li couldn’t find her ID card. Instead, she opted to download her digital identity card, at which point the pair both noticed that her phone automatically connected to the hotel’s network.
The man grew suspicious and began questioning his partner about whether she had visited the hotel with someone else before. Ms Li denied any prior visits and was just as surprised herself as to why her phone connected to the hotel’s Wi-Fi. However, the argument intensified, and the man dumped Ms Li, believing that she had cheated on him.
A heartbroken Ms Li felt insulted and started looking for answers to prove her innocence, which led to a bizarre investigation by a local television channel in Chongqing.
According to the South China Morning Post, another hotel in Chongqing, where Ms Li used to work, offered the same username and password.
After finally resolving the issue, she contacted her angry ex and explained the situation. However, he refused to talk to her and deleted her account from a chat app.
Ms Li was determined to clear her name and contacted a local news channel, expressing her unusual story. A TV reporter then went to test the theory: she visited Ms Li’s former workplace and connected to the Wi-Fi provided at the reception desk. The reporter then went to the same hotel where Ms Li and her ex-boyfriend attempted to check in. And, as predicted, the reporter’s Wi-Fi also automatically connected to the hotel’s Wi-Fi!
Although Ms Li’s actions had now been publicly vindicated, she told the channel she had no intention of getting back together with a man who did not trust her.
