HANDBALL – QATAR were crowned champions of the 10th Arab Handball Cup after defeating Bahrain 25-22 in the final yesterday.
The match, held at Kuwait’s Sheikh Saal Al Abdullah Sports Complex, witnessed accelerated pace amidst caution from the two teams as the first half ended 12-11 in favour of Qatar.
In the second half, Bahrain made several attempts to take the lead, but Qatar managed to stay ahead, eventually winning by a margin of three goals.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who attended the final, commended the strong performance of the Bahrain team, who reached the final with a well-balanced squad of experienced and young players. He also congratulated the Qatari team on winning the title, wishing them continued success.
Shaikh Khalid commended the successful organisation of the tournament, reflecting Kuwait’s track record in hosting major sports events.
He also praised the efforts of the Kuwait Handball Federation and the Arab Handball Federation in promoting the sport across the region.
He emphasised the importance of continuing the Arab handball championships to further develop the sport and enhance its competitiveness at continental and international levels, wishing all participating teams success.
