MOTORSPORT – BAHRAIN Motor Federation president Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa dedicated McLaren’s historic maiden victory in the kingdom last night to His Majesty King Hamad and to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Speaking after Oscar Piastri charged to a sensational lights-to-flag win at Bahrain International Circuit, the kingdom’s motoring chief expressed his delight at the outcome in what was yet another fantastic weekend in Sakhir.
“It was amazing!” Shaikh Abdulla told the GDN. “I would like to gift this success to HM the King and to HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, as well as to His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and to all of Bahrain!
“This has been really the best result!” Shaikh Abdulla also praised the success of Team Bahrain in putting together the record-breaking race weekend.
“Year on year, we have delivered a better race, and I’m so proud,” said Shaikh Abdulla, who is also the FIA vice-president for sport for Mena. “This is a snowball effect. We are getting better and better in racing, in organisation, in marshalling – in everything! I’m very happy about this and so proud.”
When asked about his message to Bahrain-owned McLaren after securing their first-ever triumph in the kingdom’s race, Shaikh Abdulla said: “Don’t stop! Keep winning!”
