MOTORSPORT – BAHRAIN’S international appeal on the Formula One calendar is more evident than ever before, says Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) chief executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Salman expressed his delight with the record turnout of fans coming from abroad to attend the past weekend’s F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2025. This, despite being the fourth race on the calendar, unlike in the past four seasons when the kingdom hosted the season-opener.
“I’m so happy for my team here at BIC – to sell out as the fourth race and with more international fans, it tells us that they are coming here not because we are the first race, but because it’s Bahrain. That, to me, is very important.
“And to sell out before we did last year, I am very happy for our team.
“It was a tough weekend as the weather was hot and a lot of people were working long hours,” said Shaikh Salman.
“But this year, the main thing was looking at the stands and seeing so many people, especially coming from outside of Bahrain. That has really stood out, and it’s big.
“It’s a good feeling. We didn’t know when we found out we were the fourth race how that would affect us, but now we have confidence and we can build on this.”
