RUGBY – BAHRAIN’S Second XV take on the Dubai Exiles Second XV today in the semi-finals of 2024-25 Men’s UAE Division One Rugby.
The game is set to be played at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai, and it will kick off at 2pm, Bahrain time.
The contest will be streamed live on the YouTube page of Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC), as the Second XV will be looking to secure a place in the final, scheduled for next month.
The Bahrain squad was announced yesterday by the BRFC. It includes Cameron Thomson, Martin Prinsloo, Nick Young, Talal Al Shariff, Jack Jarvis, George Swinton, Saul Piper, Dan Searle, Josh de Beer, Dan Dryden, Matt Richards, Matt Barnett, Diego Hernandez, Deina Morete, Cooper Comrie, Brandon Bourgeois, Gerhard Cronje, Alex Stones, Jaun Coetsee, Stewie Heunis, and Cole Crawford. The coaches are Lindsey Gibson and Jack Parry.
Bahrain’s Second XV made it through to the last four after beating the Barrelhouse First XV 29-19 the quarter-finals earlier this month, played at Tigers Park in Dubai.
The other semis contest is between the Abu Dhabi-based Amblers First XV and the Dubai-based Tigers First XV.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s First XV have completed their preliminary round campaign in 2024-25 Men’s West Asia Super Rugby with an unbeaten record in 12 matches.
They secured their pristine mark – for the first time in the history of the competition – after their last fixture against the Dubai Dragons First XV was forfeited. It was originally scheduled to be played today at home.
The First XV now head into the semi-finals, where they will take on the Abu Dhabi Harlequins First XV. It is scheduled for April 12 at the BRFC premises in Saar. The game is slated for a 4pm kick-off.
BRFC director of rugby Adam Wallace says that the team must now work harder than ever to secure this season’s Men’s West Asia Super Rugby title.
“We have finished the domestic season unbeaten, which is the first time we have achieved this,” Wallace told the GDN. “It is, however, only the beginning – you don’t win anything for finishing top, and the hard work starts now.
“Everything to play for in a home semi-final and then hopefully a big away day in Dubai for the final.”
