FOOTBALL – BAHRAIN’S Riffa are back in action in the 2024-25 AGCFF Gulf Club Champions League tomorrow night when they take on Al Ettifaq of Saudi Arabia at home.
The game is set to be their fifth and penultimate assignment in Group B of the competition’s preliminary round. It will be played at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town and it is scheduled for an 8.15pm kick-off.
Riffa, coached by Carlos Inarejos Hernandez of Spain, are currently fighting for second position on their division table, which will earn them a place in the semi-finals.
Ettifaq have already secured their spot in the last four, having won all four of their matches to date as they are on 12 points. Only one point separates Riffa with Al Qadsia of Kuwait, who are the other team battling for a semis berth.
Qadsia won their last meeting held in Kuwait City in December to improve to five points, while Riffa follow on four. Al Arabi of Qatar are in last place with just a single point.
Following tomorrow evening’s fixture, Riffa will be going up against Arabi on February 18.
The AGCFF Gulf Club Champions League is organised and run by the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) and it features eight teams. It is in its inaugural season under its new format.
Group A is composed of Al Nasr of the UAE, Ahli Sanaa of Yemen, Dhofar of Oman, and Duhok of Iraq.
