GOLF – The DP World Tour will soon be looking to add Bahraini talent to its operations in the kingdom as part of its long-term objective of creating opportunities for citizens in the golf industry.
“We like to leave a legacy wherever we play our tour events – a legacy that is about inspiring the next generation,” DP World Tour Middle East director Tom Phillips told the GDN yesterday.
“We want to work with local schools, attract kids to come along – maybe even inspire them to take up the game – and if they don’t end up playing golf, it’s an industry that offers so many other avenues.
“What we’d like to do is take up Bahraini interns next year to come and work with our team. They will get to understand what it takes to run a golf tournament, and if that inspires them to go into the golf industry, the golf business, then that would be a legacy we would be very proud of.”
Phillips said that the DP World Tour has teamed up with the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Tamkeen, and other stakeholders on this initiative.
“With the BOC and all our partners, including Tamkeen, we have established a registered office here in the kingdom, and we will be looking to invite locals to come and work with us.
“Maybe, one day, this championship will be run by Bahrainis. That would be a great legacy.”
