Bahrain have punched their tickets to the semi-finals of the 26th Gulf Cup in Kuwait.
The kingdom’s senior men’s football national team outclassed defending champions Iraq 2-0 tonight to claim their second win in as many games and secure their spot in the competition’s final four.
Ali Madan scored a brace for the Bahrainis in the win. His two goals came on either side of half-time.
Iraq were handed their first loss, and with Saudi Arabia beating Yemen 3-2 in today’s other Group B fixture, Bahrain are through to the knockout stage with one game still to play in the preliminaries.
The nationals take on Yemen on Saturday while Iraq and Saudi square off the same evening for the other semi-final berth from their division. Both contests are scheduled for simultaneous 5.30pm kick-offs at separate venues in Kuwait City.
