Manama Retro, a nostalgic festival celebrating the historical, economic and social heritage of Manama, opened last night in the heart of Bahrain’s capital.
Organised by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), the festival takes people on a trip down memory lane, showcasing ‘the golden era of the island’s beautiful past’ from the 60s to the 90s.
Running until January 7, it features exciting activities like a food tour, a gold shop tour, musical and theatrical performances, retro games and four museum exhibits.
The two-week festival also spotlights a number of long-established local restaurants and vendors along with vintage fashion and fine dining.
“Retro Manama serves to highlight distinctive Bahraini identity by simulating important eras in its history, as well as the cultural diversity and rich history of the Manama Suq,” Tourism Minister Fatima Al Sairafi said.
It concludes the events launched in conjunction with the announcement of Manama as the Gulf Tourism Capital 2024, she added. The event is also part of Celebrate Bahrain 2024.
Meanwhile, BTEA chief executive Sara Buhijji said the festivities are a tribute to the spirit of the city and aims to deliver a unique experience reflecting the connection between past and the present.
Retro Manama is open from 5pm to 10pm, Sunday to Wednesday, and 5pm until midnight from Thursday to Saturday.
