MOTORSPORT – BAHRAINI-British GT team 2 Seas Motorsport secured their second successive top 10 finish yesterday to wrap up the first round of the 2024-25 Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS), held at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
2 Seas are making their debut campaign in the championship, which is the continent’s premier endurance racing series, run by the organisers of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
After placing a solid eighth in class in the season-opening four-hour event on Saturday, the 2 Seas trio of Anthony McIntosh from the US, Parker Thompson from Canada, and Ben Barnicoat from Great Britain drove their #96 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo contender to ninth yesterday amongst the 25 cars competing in the Grand Touring (GT) category.
They completed 77 laps in the race – just one behind the GT winners from Winward Racing, who were competing in the #81 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo. Taking second in the category were the #10 Porsche 911 GT3 R of Manthey, while third were AF Corse’s #28 Ferrari 296 GT3.
The third and fourth races of the six-round championship will be held at Dubai Autodrome on February 8 and 9. The season’s last two events will then take place at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on February 15 and 16.
Teams competing in the ALMS are fighting for invitations to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2025. The champions of both the LMP2 and GT classes will both be awarded an invite to be a part of the iconic event in France, to be held as part of next year’s FIA World Endurance Championship.
