MOTORSPORT – BAHRAINI-British motor racing team 2 Seas Motorsport finished a strong eighth in class yesterday in the season-opening round of the 2024-25 Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS).
2 Seas are making their debut campaign in the championship, which is holding its first meeting at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia. Action continues today with the second round, scheduled to get underway at 9am, Bahrain time.
The 2 Seas trio of American Anthony McIntosh, Canadian Parker Thompson, and Briton Ben Barnicoat drove their #96 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo contender to their final classification amongst the 25 cars competing in the Grand Touring (GT) category.
They started from 10th on the grid in class, and completed 97 laps in the four-hour event – just a lap behind the top three GT finishers, namely the #57 Car Guy crew, the #51 AF Corse, and the #74 Kessel Racing, all of whom were driving Ferrari 296 GT3 challengers.
Meanwhile, for today’s round two, 2 Seas qualified 12th on the grid in class, with a best lap time of two minutes 06.674 seconds. They were 1.421 seconds behind the pole-sitters in the #28 AF Corse.
The ALMS is the continent’s premier endurance racing championship, run by the organisers of the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans. Aside from the GT category, there are also contenders in the LMP2 and LMP3 classes.
Following today’s race, rounds three and four will be held at Dubai Autodrome on February 8 and 9. The season’s last two events will then take place at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on February 15 and 16.
Teams competing in the ALMS are fighting for invitations to race in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2025. The champions of both the LMP2 and GT classes will both be awarded an invite to be a part of the iconic event in France, to be held as part of next year’s FIA World Endurance Championship.
