Bahrain will be represented by the quartet of Bayan Salman, Aya Kamali, Seema Ali, and Hessa Al Jaber in the women’s competition of the Manama Masters 2024, part of this year’s Fiba 3x3 World Tour.
The prestigious street basketball event will be taking place next Friday and Saturday at a specially erected venue at Bahrain Financial Harbour in Manama.
It will be held under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The kingdom’s representatives are part of Al Zallaq team, who will be coached by renowned Bahraini tactician Murtadha Mohammed, the Bahrain Basketball Association has announced.
Last year, Bahrain’s women’s squad of Manama narrowly missed out on the gold medals after losing to Doha Expo from Qatar in their final. The Manama squad was composed of Al Jaber, Marian Samir, and professional players Julia Jorritsma and Loyce Bettonvil.
The men’s 3x3 contest, the Manama Masters, will feature 14 squads from around the world competing for the crown.
They include Bahrain’s very own Riffa, along with Paris from France, Raudondvaris Hoptrans of Lithuania, Lausanne of Switzerland, Liman of Serbia, Ulaanbaatar MMC Energy of Mongolia, Hangzhou and Chongming of China, Podgorica Kodio of Montenegro, Barcelona of Spain, Sagamihara Enndaruma of Japan, Shanghai JUSS of China, Al Wakrah of Qatar, and Orlando of the US.
The Manama Masters will be taking place for the second consecutive year, and it will be the 14th stop on this year’s Fiba 3x3 World Tour, which features 17 events, including the series finale in Hong Kong at the end of November.
Bahrain is one of three destinations in the Gulf on this year’s Fiba 3x3 World Tour calendar. The others are Abu Dhabi, the UAE, taking place tomorrow and Sunday, and Neom in Saudi Arabia, scheduled for the week after Bahrain from November 7 to 9.
Aside from the women’s and men’s 3x3 competitions, there will also be a dunk contest and shoot-out as part of the Manama Masters’ two-day programme.
