Buraidah- CEO of the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) Dr. Khaled Al-Abdulkader visited Al-Qassim National Park in Buraidah and Unayzah Forest to assess progress on vegetation enhancement and desertification control efforts.
He also checked on the implementation of the reclaimed firewood recycling plan.
The visit is within the scope of NCVC mission of overseeing and developing national parks, and protecting vegetation cover sites throughout Saudi Arabia.
Al-Qassim National Park, situated 18 kilometers northeast of Buraidah, is renowned for its diverse flora and serves as a habitat for various wildlife species, including gazelles and bustards. The park also operates a nursery that produces over 390,000 saplings, contributing to the expansion of the region's vegetation cover.
Al-Abdulkader participated in a ceremony led by Qassim Region Governor Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz to mark the laying of the foundation stone of four new vegetation cover development projects that involve tree planting and seed scattering.
Five other projects that focus on rehabilitating degraded areas and promoting biodiversity were inaugurated at the ceremony.
Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman Alfadley attended the event.
Al-Abdulkader also joined a meeting chaired by Alfadley, in which they engaged with local citizens and addressed several inquiries about vegetation cover and efforts to combat desertification.
NCVC works to develop, protect, and monitor vegetation cover, rehabilitate degraded areas, detect and combat illegal logging, and oversee rangeland management. The center also protects and invests in forests and national parks, contributing to sustainable development.
