Olympic – Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa yesterday received the ‘Athena’, a prestigious award presented by the International Olympic Academy (IOA) to the Bahrain Olympic Academy (BOA).
Handing over the award to Shaikh Khalid was IOA president Isidoros Kouvelos. The presentation took place at the Greek capital in the presence of Greece President Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
In attendance were GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, BOC vice-president Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and BOC secretary general Faris Al Kooheji.
The awarding of the medal to the BOA came in recognition of the important role it plays in supporting the Olympic movement in the kingdom and the region.
The BOA has been integral in conducting high-level training programmes to develop sports coaches and administrators.
