Two-time reigning national champions Al Khaldiya will be looking to add another trophy to their Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League title, when they face off with Al Hala on Friday for the 2023-24 Bahrain Super Cup.
The one-off game is scheduled for a 7pm kick-off at Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium in Arad.
The match date was confirmed yesterday by the Bahrain Football Association (BFA). It will be held just days after Khaldiya were presented with their premier league crown in a ceremony attended by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Khaldiya will be aiming for a repeat Bahrain Super Cup victory, having won the previous edition of the game in 2022 when they beat Riffa 2-0.
Meanwhile, the BFA also announced yesterday the schedule of matches for the relegation play-offs for two places in the 2024-25 Nasser bin Hamad Bahrain Premier League.
Four teams are in the mini-competition, including Hidd, East Riffa, Al Malkiya and Al Ettihad.
Hidd and East Riffa are in the event after finishing ninth and 10th, respectively, in this season’s premier league, while Malkiya and Ettihad are participating having taken third and fourth place in the second division.
Hidd and East Riffa are hoping to avoid joining Al Hala and Busaiteen in dropping down to the kingdom’s lower-tier football competition, while Malkiya and Ettihad are aiming to join Bahrain Club and A’ali as promoted sides to the top flight.
The play-offs kick off on Thursday night with Hidd facing Ettihad and East Riffa taking on Malkiya. On Monday, East Riffa play Hidd and Malkiya go against Ettihad. The play-offs wrap up on May 31 with Ettihad taking on East Riffa and Hidd locking horns with Malkiya.
All the matches are scheduled for 7pm kick-offs, with the two games on each day being held at Shaikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Stadium and Al Ahli Club Stadium in Mahooz.
