CRICKET – Former Indian pace bowler and current ICC match referee Javagal Srinath presented trophies to the winners of the BMMI Shops KSB Champions Trophy Cricket Tournament, organised by the Kannada Sangha Bahrain (KSB).
About 700 people were present during the finals of the tournament and the prize presentation.
As many as 34 teams took part in the month-long tournament, held at The Indian Club in Manama, in three categories – men, women and under-16 boys.
The winners and runners-up were:
Men: winners – Riffa Indian Star; runners-up – New World
Women: winners – Kannada Sangha Bahrain; runners-up – HPCA Queens
Under 16 Boys: winners – HPCA; runners-up – NSB.
Srinath appreciated Bahrain’s efforts in promoting cricket in the kingdom and praised the Sangha for a well-organised tournament. He also urged KSB to conduct the tournament every year.
Dignitaries at the presentation included Amarnath Rai, Kannada Sangha president; Dr Shrikanth Rai, cricket administrator and former cricketer from Karnataka; Naveen Shetty, managing director of AUMA Middle East; Subhas Chandra ,CFO, Diyar Al Muharaq; Deepak Nair, CEO, BFC; Cassius Periera, president, The Indian Club; Pradeep Shetty, former president, Kannada Sangha, Naveen Shetty, entrepreneur; Mahesh Kumar, vice president of KSB, D Ramesh, chief co-ordinator of KSB Champions Trophy; and KSB sports secretary John Deepak D’Sa.
Earlier, KSB felicitated Srinath at a ceremony in Kannada Bhavana in Manama. Indian Ambassador Vinod K Jacob was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Shrikanth Rai, president of the Dakshina Kannada Cricket Association, and Mohammed Mansoor, chairman of the Bahrain Cricket Federation advisory council, were among the distinguished guests.
Affectionately known as ‘Mysore Express,’ Srinath captivated the audience with a charismatic speech and an engaging interaction, fielding questions from cricket enthusiasts.
