The Health Ministry has urged citizens and residents in Bahrain, especially people most at risk of infection with Covid-19 and its complications, to take the booster doses of Pfizer – XBB 1.5 to stay protected from the disease and its new variants.
Head of the Disease Control Department Dr Basma Al Saffar explained that the new booster vaccine is available with two types: one designated for people aged 12 and above and the other for children aged 5 to 11.
She added that the ministry recommends those who did not take any of the Covid-19 vaccines before to get the initial dose of Pfizer and the booster ones for the age group of 12 and above in order to rev up their immunity against the virus and its mutated variants.
Dr Al Saffar indicated that people most vulnerable to infection with the coronavirus and its complications are those aged 50 years and above, in addition to people suffering from chronic diseases such as respiratory, cardiovascular, kidney, liver, blood and metabolic diseases, including diabetes and neurological diseases.
She added that people who suffer from obesity, have immune deficiency, pregnant women and health workers are also at high risk of contracting the virus.
She called on those wishing to receive the Pfizer vaccine to go to the primary healthcare centres, pointing out that for any further information, people can visit the ministry’s website www.healthalert.gov.bh.
