The new board of the Bahrain Cricket Federation (BCF), which took charge this week, has been welcomed by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president’s adviser and KHK Sports chief executive Mohammed Shahid.
The board was restructured following an edict issued by Supreme Council for Youth and Sport first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority chairman and BOC president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The new board comprises president Sami Mohamed Ali, vice president Dr Mohammed Sameer, general secretary Kishore Kewalram, treasurer Meenaz Ahmed and members Sameer Mushtaque Ali and Alison Lillywhite.
During the meeting, Shahid highlighted the visionary approach of Shaikh Khalid to elevate cricket to a global platform. He emphasised the importance of fostering sportsman spirit and stressed the privatisation of sports clubs to enhance Bahrain’s overall sports ecosystem.
KHK Cricket president and BCF advisory board chairman Mohammad Mansoor shared the current global achievements of BCF, highlighting the growing cricket enthusiasm on the island. He anticipates the development of infrastructure and the emergence of private academies. Mansoor also urged the new board to contribute to the development of Bahrain’s cricket, making use of the opportunities provided by Shaikh Khalid.
BCF president Ali, who has represented Bahrain as a captain of the U17 team, assured the dedication of the new board towards elevating cricket on the island to new heights.
Kewalram, who has been a passionate supporter of cricket in Bahrain for the last three decades, reaffirmed his commitment to the mission while Dr Sameer highlighted his association with sports medicine. Board member Mushtaque Ali welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the development of cricket in Bahrain.
The board has robust women representation and Ahmed and Lillywhite thanked Shaikh Khalid for giving women equal opportunities to serve and develop sports in Bahrain.
