THE Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) begins its new season today with the opening race for the cups of the Late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa on the club’s race track in Al Raffa area in Sakhir, amid the aspirations and anticipation of horseracing fans to be a distinguished one in light of the preparations made by the club as well as the various stables.
The first event for the Late Shaikh Rashid bin Isa Al Khalifa Cup is dedicated to purebred Arabian horses of Bahrain “Wahoo” over 1,000 metres straight, and main contestants are Al Maanqi 1846 (Khalidiya Stable), Al Hamdani 1810 (Victorious Stable) and Tuwaisan 1844 (Riffa Stable).
The second race is for locally-bred horses of all grades over 1,000m straight, and the competition is expected to be between Lumari (Al Afam Stable), Ahed (Khalidiya Stable) and December (Muhammadiyah Stable).
The third race is for local-bred horses over 1,800m, with the mare Jadala the most prominent candidate along with Sinatra.
The fourth race is for imported horses of the third and fourth grades and novices over 2,000m, which is expected to witness a two-way competition between American Flag (Adiyat Stable) and his rival Dark Lyon (Victorious).
The fifth race is for imported horses of the third and fourth grades and novices over 1,400m, with competition being among Time Step (Adiyat) and Royal Simitar (Muhammadiyah).
The sixth race is for imported horses over 1,200m straight, where the mare Ocean Star will compete against Pure Dreamer (Adiyat) and debutant Edward Cornelius (Muhammadiyah).
The seventh race is for the second category of imported first-class horses over 1,600m. Bayline (Adiyat) will be up against Gomis (Muhammadiyah) and Maystar (Al Amnesty).
The eighth and final race of the day for the “Season Opening Cup” is for locally-bred novice horses over 1,600m. Eighteen horses are in the fray with Quild & Reddy (Victorious), George (Adiyat) and Saffroni (Muhammadiyah) among the top contenders.
REHC has prepared various recreational and family events for the public to accompany the weekly races throughout the season through the establishment of an events village, which includes entertainment, educational and interactive activities and games, as well as food and beverage outlets, allowing fans the opportunity to follow the races and spend fun times with their families.
