Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) first deputy chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa has praised the major role played by national universities in supporting the sports movement in the kingdom.
He commended the universities’ keenness to embrace and organise sports activities, encourage students’ participation in external sports events, and hone the skills of athletes across various sports.
Shaikh Khalid made these statements while receiving, at the Al Wadi Palace in Riffa yesterday, the University of Bahrain (UoB) volleyball team, gold medal winners at the University International Sports Festival 2023, as well as the taekwondo team, winners of one gold and two bronze medals at the same event, held recently in Russia.
Shaikh Khalid praised the distinguished achievements of the volleyball and taekwondo teams at the international event, congratulating the two teams’ players, as well as the technical and administrative staff on their victories.
He also paid tribute to the Bahrain Schools and Collegiate Athletics Association and UoB for their continuous support for university teams, wishing them continued success.
Present at the event were GSA deputy chairman Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, GSA chief executive Dr Abdulrahman Askar, UoB president Dr Fuad Mohammed Al Ansari, BOC secretary general Fares Al Kooheji and Bahrain Schools and College Athletic Association president Dr Shaikh Saqr bin Salman Al Khalifa.
