MUHARRAQ will join defending champions Manama as the second basketball team from Bahrain which will take part in the upcoming 2023-24 FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL), the Bahrain Basketball Association president announced yesterday.
Manama won the inaugural edition of the 18-team tournament last month when they defeated Kuwait Club in a gripping final at the Shaikh Saeed Bin Maktoum Sports Hall in Dubai to become the first-ever FIBA WASL champions.
BBA president Captain Waleed Al Alawi said that the inclusion of Muharraq in the second edition of the WASL, which will feature some of the strongest club teams from the West Asia and Gulf region, shows how much the game is prospering in the kingdom with Manama having already won the first edition.
Muharraq’s addition to the roster of WASL teams also demonstrates how rapidly Bahraini basketball teams are making an impact at the regional level, he added.
