The Rotary Club of Manama will hold its annual six-a-side charity football tournament today at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC).
This year’s edition of the tournament – which has been held every year since 1976, barring a forced hiatus from 2019 to 2021 because of Covid-19 – will feature 16 teams slotted into four groups.
The proceeds raised from the tournament will go towards causes supported by the Rotary Club.
“All the funds raised will go towards certain initiatives that we support,” incoming club president Renuka Ravindran Nambiar, who will assume office on July 1, told the GDN.
“This year, we will be helping needy Bahraini families who live below the poverty line, helping Bahraini youth who were affected by the coronavirus pandemic mentally, socially and vocationally and we will be helping children with special needs as well as those who might be differently-abled or with Down Syndrome.”
These were not one-off initiatives, Nambiar added.
“We will be supporting these causes all through the next year,” she explained.
The tournament kicks off at 4pm.
