Modern problems require modern solutions. It seems smartphone addiction has gotten so bad in South Korea that the government has resorted to installing traffic lights on the ground to alert pedestrians.

In a trial programme, the South Korean government has installed led traffic lights at an intersection in Seoul.
The rising number of accidents at pedestrian crossings led to the decision to install these lights on a trial basis.
Reportedly, the government is also experimenting with an alert system that would send notifications to a person's phone if he is about to cross a road into traffic.
The alerts will also have live traffic information.
