Bahrain dominated the women’s 3,000 metres steeplechase winning both gold and silver medals at the fifth Islamic Solidarity Games being held in Konya, Turkiye.
Winfred Yavi helped Bahrain bag another gold at the event by winning the chase in 9:34.57, ahead of compatriot Tigest Mekonen who clinched the silver medal in 9:50.14. Morocco’s Ikram Quaaziz finished third in 9:57.18.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Dawit Admasu clinched the gold medal in men’s 10,000m clocking 28:31.14.
Later, Bahrain added another gold to their growing tally when Muna Mubarak won the women’s 400m with a time of 52.97.
Bahrain’s Jacob Salem secured a spot in the men’s 200m semi-finals after finishing third in his group with a time of 20:92 seconds. Zeinab Mohammed qualified for the women’s 200m semi-finals after finishing second in her group with 23:33. Another Bahrain athlete, Adedeong, reached the women’s 200m semi-finals topping her group in 23:23.
