His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa has inaugurated Team Bahrain Victorious.
The squad, which was previously known as Team Bahrain McLaren, will take part in the 2021 UCI World Tour Season.
Team Bahrain McLaren announced a few days ago that it would compete as Team Bahrain Victorious in the 2021 season as part of a change in its strategic direction.
The new season will include elite cyclists, including Mikel Landa, Pello Bilbao, Wout Poels, Dylan Teuns, Sonny Colbrelli, Matej Mohoric, Jack Haig, Jonathan Milan and Gino Mäder.
The team’s strong connection to Bahrain is represented by the support of the Bahrain Economic Development Board, Bapco, Batelco, National Bank of Bahrain and Alba among others.
Bahrain has been involved in UCI World Tour cycling since 2017 with the support of Merida Bikes, who will continue to be an integral partner of the team, supplying race-winning bikes and continuous innovation alongside their technical partners FSA cockpits, Vision wheels, Prologo saddles, Continental tyres and Shimano power meters.
Partners
In addition to Merida, Team Bahrain Victorious will also be working with several of pro cycling’s most impressive technical partners – including leading-edge helmet and eyewear brand Rudy Project, cycling luggage innovator Scicon, Elite trainers and bottles, performance apparel brand Nalini and the most innovative tool brands Snap-On and Bahco.
Global news broadcaster CNBC, bespoke tailors Cad & The Dandy, Rocket Espresso and Bristot have also renewed their partnership with the team for next year.
Shaikh Nasser said that Bahrain has proved its merits in the cycling world after achieving many objectives in the previous period which witnessed many successes in major international championships, stating that one of the goals was to take advantage of international events to promote Bahrain and mirror its bright image in the sports field.
He pointed out that Bahrain has been keen to take part through the teams that hold the kingdom’s name in various sports events in which the Bahraini champions have had exceptional accomplishments, including Team Bahrain McLaren.
“Our target is to enter the upcoming period under the name Team Bahrain Victorious to realise our future vision. Forming this team will have positive impact on Bahrain which has become the home of the cycling sport in the Middle East, and this is considered a tremendous step in promoting the kingdom in line with its Economic Vision 2030.”
