Abu Dhabi - Two Emirati sportswomen will compete in ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships, scheduled to open on Friday (April19) and run until April 26 in Thailand.
UAE women’s national team boxers Hana Al-Faqi and Hanan Al-Zeyoudi took part in a training camp which was held in Uzbekistan ahead of the ASBC championship. They participated in a training camp in Abu Dhabi at Zayed Sports City.
The world amateur boxing governing body (AIBA) issued a resolution last February, allowing Muslim female fighters to wear the hijab which enabled the two Emiratis to start the first UAE women’s national team.
The UAE national team also includes men fighters Hazza Al-Gallaf, Saab Mirza, Ahmed Mohsen and Ahmed Al-Shomaily.
The team will travel to Bangkok, Thailand, after an intensive 14-day training camp in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
