NETBALL – BAHRAIN’S youth netball squads came away with a series of accolades yesterday in this year’s Inter-Gulf Youth Netball Championship, held in Abu Dhabi, the UAE.
Bahrain’s under-12 team won the bronze medals in their Cup competition, while the under-14 Bahrain A side clinched silver in their age division’s Trophy finals. The kingdom’s under-14 B team were also runners-up in their Plate finals.
“I would like to express how proud we are of our incredible youth Bahrain squads for their fantastic performance at the inter-gulf championships in Abu Dhabi,” Bahrain Netball director Khulood Al Sabah told the GDN.
“A heartfelt thank you to Abu Dhabi Netball for their outstanding organisation, warm hospitality, and tireless efforts in delivering a memorable and well-run tournament for all the girls.
“Special recognition goes to our youth co-ordinator Vikki Hughes-Swick, and our amazing coaches, Claire Van Minnen, Joanna Reed, and Jeannine Wessels, for their dedication, leadership, and unwavering support that made this successful participation possible.
“Our Bahrain teams truly shone! A huge congratulations to all the coaches and players for bringing home silverware and making Bahrain proud.”
The under-12s, coached by Van Minnen, secured the bronze medals in their Cup finals, which they finished with two points. They were ranked behind winners Abu Dhabi Red, who had 10 points, while the runners-up were Dubai A with six markers.
In the under-14 category, the Bahrain A team, coached by Wessels, finished as runners-up in the Trophy finals. They posted four points in the round, tied with bronze-medallists Sharjah, and finishing only behind winners Dubai, who topped with 10 points.
The under-14 Bahrain B squad, coached by Reed, took the silver medals in the Plate final, where they finished with six points. They were tied behind gold-medallists Al Ain and third-placers Qatar, both of whom were also on six points.
The Inter-Gulf Youth Netball Championship will be followed this coming weekend by the seniors’ competition, in which Bahrain is also participating.
