BASKETBALL – MUHARRAQ are set for a fiery clash with Al Ahli in the quarter-finals of the 2025 Khalifa bin Salman Cup basketball tournament, which is scheduled to tip off tomorrow.
The match-ups for the competition’s round of eight have been determined following the completion of the preliminary round of the 2024-25 Zain Bahrain Basketball League.
Muharraq, the top seeds of the Premier League this season, will be facing off with Ahli, who are also amongst the leading contenders for both the league crown and the Khalifa bin Salman Cup. Ahli finished third on the standings at the end of the league’s regular season.
In other games, the Khalifa bin Salman Cup’s two-time defending champions Manama will face off with Hala, Al Najma go up against Nuwaidrat, while Al Ettihad face off with Samaheej.
Muharraq, Ahli, Manama, Hala, Najma, and Ettihad all competed this past regular season in the Premier League, while Nuwaidrat were League B champions and Samaheej the runners-up.
Manama won the last two editions of the prestigious tournament, which was rebranded to the Khalifa bin Salman Cup in 2017.
Muharraq triumphed in its first year, and then Manama won in 2018. Riffa then claimed the trophy in 2019, before Ahli lifted it in three straight seasons from 2020 to 2022. Manama have since been back-to-back winners.
