Kuala Lumpur: Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and First Vice President of FIFA, met with Lieutenant General Jibril Rajoub, President of the Palestinian Football Association, ahead of the AFC Executive Committee’s sixth meeting.
During the meeting, Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim reaffirmed the AFC’s full support for the Palestinian Football Association, stressing the continued solidarity of the Asian football community with Palestinian football. He expressed hope that the Association will soon be able to exercise its full right to develop and expand the sport across all levels.
He commended the perseverance and determination shown by the Palestinian Football Association in advancing football despite ongoing challenges, highlighting the national team’s recent success in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as a reflection of unity and the Association’s commitment to bringing hope and joy to Palestinian society.
Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim reiterated the AFC’s desire to see a swift and peaceful resolution to the obstacles facing football in Palestine. He confirmed that the AFC, in coordination with FIFA, will continue exploring effective mechanisms to address the ongoing difficulties.
He also reaffirmed the AFC’s long-term commitment to supporting development projects in Palestine, including infrastructure rebuilding, grassroots initiatives, women’s football, refereeing, and coaching, to ensure sustainable progress in the sport.
On his part, Lieutenant General Rajoub expressed his appreciation for Shaikh Salman bin Ibrahim’s continuous support and praised the AFC’s principled stance on Palestinian football. He welcomed the recent approval of a field hospital project under the AFC’s social responsibility efforts, viewing it as a clear example of the strong solidarity between both sides.
