20,000 students set an astonishing Guinness World Record by performing 108 Surya Namaskarams for two hours at the Araku Valley Degree College in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh, India.
Surya Namaskarams, known as sun salutations, is the official name for a sequence containing 12 yoga positions.
More than 13,000 girls participated in the students' programme, part of the 'Yoga—Maha Surya Vandanam,' to celebrate World Health Day.
The large-scale meditative event was officially accredited by Alice Renaud, the London World Records Union manager.
Renaud stated, "I'm a World Record Union Manager, and I was here tonight to witness the performance as 20,000 students performed sun salutations. This is a new world record that has been established tonight. I want to congratulate them."
The students came from five different mandals in the district and had been rigorously practising for this day for five months, waking up at 4am for their daily yoga sessions.
Dinesh Kumar, the District Collector, expressed the positive impact that the sessions had on the students, including improvements in their health, learning abilities, and overall performance.
