GOLF – DARREN Harris shone with a 60 net to beat an impressive 63 net from Susan Scott, while Nasser Yaqoob Saleh collected the BMMI Heineken Medal at Awali Golf Club (AGC).
The BMMI-supported event was the first competition after Eid Al Fitr at AGC. It was held with less than two weeks to go until the 60th Bahrain Open Golf Championship and the 36th Bahrain Ladies Open Championship, scheduled for April 18 and 19.
Scott shot a gross 83 to make for a net 63 and set the bar high. No one came close until Harris returned his card, posting his best round ever with a gross 82 and a net 60.
The medal for the best gross round was won by Saleh, shooting a 69, with two birdies and a bogey. Mohamed Ali Al Kowari scored a 71 to win division one with a net 68. Division two was claimed by Dowon Pyun, just edging out Sun Kyu Kwak on countback, with both scoring a 67 net.
Ali Musbah, who was chuffed with the proposed new 11th brown to be in play for a trial, was runner-up in division one with a net 70. Shuvendu Bakshi was the runner-up in division three with a net 67. Scott conquered the division with her net 63.
Both the prizes of the Russell Cup and Memorial Trophy as well as the prizes for the BMMI Heineken Medal were handed out by AGC captain Steve Newall and tournament directors Nathan Sundaresan and Rashed Fares Al Qutami.
