CYCLING – TEAM Bahrain Victorious rider Fred Wright had a solid performance in the 79th Dwars door Vlaanderen-A travers la Flandre ME race in Belgium.
The elite men’s road event, part of the 2025 calendar of the Union Cycliste Internationale’s World Tour, was a one-day competition covering a distance of 184.2 kilometres.
Wright was the best-placed Bahrain Victorious competitor in 16th amongst the field of 175 of the world’s leading pro cyclists.
The Briton finished a minute and 30 seconds behind winner Neilson Powless of EF Education-EasyPost team, who won in three hours 57 minutes and 14 seconds. Powless outsprinted a small group to the finish to secure first place overall.
Wright’s Bahrain Victorious teammates Andrea Pasqualon from Italy and Matej Mohoric of Slovenia also made it into the top 50 in 47th and 49th, respectively.
Belgian Vlad van Mechelen narrowly missed out on joining them after ranking not far behind in 51st.
Three Bahrain Victorious riders were amongst nearly 80 participants who did not finish the race. They included Australian Robert Stannard, Russian Roman Ermakov, and Italian Alberto Bruttomesso.
