The general assembly of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) has unanimously endorsed Supreme Council for Youth and Sport (SCYS) first deputy chairman and General Sports Authority (GSA) chairman Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa for a new term as BOC president from 2024 to 2028.
The meeting, held at the Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain yesterday, was attended by Olympic Council of Asia director general Husain Ali Al Musallam, GSA CEO Dr Abdulrahman Askar, and BOC secretary general Fares Al Kooheji.
The assembly also endorsed the new BOC board, which includes Salem Mohammed Ayyedh Al Otaibi, Ali Mohammed Issa Ishaqi, Ali Abdulaziz Mohammed Ali Janahi, Ishaq Ibrahim Ishaq, Fajr Jassim Hassan, Rashid Isa Rashid Feleyfel, Waleed Al Alawi, and Sahar Abdulkarim Abbas Qannati.
Shaikh Khalid expressed his appreciation to the general assembly for their confidence in him for another four-year term. He commended the unity and co-operation among member sports federations, which contributed to significant achievements during the previous term.
Shaikh Khalid emphasised the importance of redoubling efforts to achieve further success and elevate Bahrain’s presence on the international stage. He also commended the strong collaboration between the BOC and national federations, which has led to various accomplishments, and expressed optimism that the new board would meet the aspirations of the member federations.
The BOC secretary general highlighted Shaikh Khalid’s support, which has led to successes in competitions, event hosting, and improvements in the BOC’s technical, administrative, and financial operations.
The agenda included approving the minutes of the previous meeting, reviewing the administrative report for 2023–24, the BOC’s achievements in 2024, and the financial reports for 2023 and 2024.
The assembly also approved the BOC’s administrative plan and projects for 2025 and discussed proposals submitted by the Bahrain Cycling Association, which will be referred to the new board for consideration.
Following this, the outgoing board’s term was officially concluded, and the new board, led by Shaikh Khalid, was endorsed.
