Dubai has announced plans to turn key residential areas into car-free zones as part of its Super Block initiative, which aims to create sustainable, livable residential areas.
The move is part of a broader vision to make the city greener by prioritising pedestrians and cyclists.
The residential areas of Al Fahidi, Abu Hail, Al Karama, and Al Quoz Creative Zone are set to be turned into pro-pedestrian zones to enhance quality of life. The aim is to increase green spaces and, in turn, foster more social interactions through shared recreational spaces.
Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, announced the Super Block initiative, which is in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
