Dubai is about to start charging AED25 per hour for car parking in certain high-traffic areas during major events in a bid to curb traffic and congestion.
Parkin, the company that manages the public parking operations in the emirate, said the 'Event Hour' tariff was being introduced to “effectively manage the temporary surge in parking demand”, especially during large-scale exhibitions and events in the city.
The new tariffs will apply in areas around the Dubai World Trade Centre, which will host the 30th annual Gulfood trade exhibition.
Parkin said the new event parking charge would be enforced in areas near the trade centre with zone codes 335X, 336X, and 337X.
“These zones will be clearly marked during the event, with tariff information clearly displayed and accessible on the Parkin website, via the Parkin mobile app and social media channels,” Parkin said on social media.
Parking near the trade centre usually costs AED2 for a 30-minute stay to AED16 for four hours.
