CYCLING – TEAM Bahrain Victorious rider Fred Wright claimed a top 10 finish yesterday in the opening stage of the ninth Tour de la Provence in France.
The Briton finished amongst the leaders’ group to take 10th on the rankings at the end of the 169.3-kilometre leg.
Slovenian Matej Mohoric was Bahrain Victorious’ second-best finisher yesterday in 14th, also amongst a large group of participants in a bunch finish. Oliver Stockwell, also from Great Britain, was 47th, Roman Ermakov from Russia came 51st, Alessandro Borgo of Italy was 62nd, Matevz Govekar of Slovenia was 66th, and Nicolo Buratti of Italy was 77th.
In the race’s general classification (GC), Wright was fifth after the first stage. He was also sixth on the points rankings for the green jersey.
The Tour de la Provence continues today with a 167.3km second stage, starting from the commune of Forcalquier and ending in the town of Manosque. The third and final stage tomorrow will then be held over 190.6km. The race is part of the UCI Europe Tour’s 2025 calendar.
