Bahrain were yesterday drawn in a tough group for the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup 2025, set to take place in China this May.
The kingdom’s women’s futsal national team are set to take on two-time silver-medallists Japan, two-time bronze-medallists Thailand, and Indonesia in the competition’s preliminary round.
The tournament’s official draw was held yesterday in the event’s host city of Hohhot.
Group A features hosts China, Uzbekistan, Chinese Taipei, and debutants Australia, while Group B is composed of two-time defending champions Iran, Vietnam, Hong Kong and the Philippines, another debutant.
The Bahrainis earned their place in the continental showcase after finishing second in qualification Group A held last month in Nonthaburi, Thailand. Bahrain won two of their four games, drew another, and lost one.
This year’s AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup is the third edition of the tournament. Bahrain also participated in the 2018 event but did not make it past the group stage. A championship was then scheduled to take place in 2020, but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The top three finishers in China will qualify for the inaugural Fifa Futsal Women’s World Cup 2025, to be hosted by the Philippines in November and December.
