A woman in the Indian state of West Bengal has been accused of forcing her husband to sell his kidney, then stealing the money and running away with her lover.
According to reports, the woman allegedly pressured her husband to sell his kidney for Rs 10 lakhs (approx BD4,350), claiming financial difficulties and the need to fund their daughter's education.
After constant pressure, the man finally agreed to sell his kidney and got Rs 10 lakhs in return. The man, hoping that his sacrifice would all be worth it, was shocked to later learn that his wife had stolen the money and eloped with her lover.
Reportedly, the wife had fallen in love with a local painter and devised a scheme to elope with the money while the husband was recovering from the surgery.
The husband has since filed a police complaint against the wife. The husband and his family were finally able to track the wife and her lover to their house, but when confronted, she claimed that she hadn't taken any of the money and that she was divorcing him.
The police said that they would be questioning the wife and her lover before initiating any action against them.
