VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain champions Dar Kulaib suffered a second successive defeat last night in the 43rd Arab Men’s Volleyball Clubs Championship, taking place in Doha, Qatar.
After losing to Egyptian powerhouses Al Ahly in their opening Group C game in the preliminary round, the Bahrainis fell yesterday 0-3 (20-25, 17-25, 20-25) to Police Union of hosts Qatar.
The result virtually ended Dar Kulaib’s hopes of making it through to the tournament’s quarter-finals.
They have one match to play in this phase of the 15-team tournament, which features the flags of nine countries. It is against Erbil today afternoon at 4.30pm, Bahrain time.
Dar Kulaib’s squad in Doha is being coached by Argentinian Alejandro Schneider. Their roster includes Hassan Nasser, Yousef Khaled, Mahmoud Abdulwahed, Amin Ebrahim, Ali Habib, Ali Hussain, Hussain Isa, Abbas Abdulla, Hassan Alaiwi, Hassan Warqaa, Hassan Abbas, Ayman Isa, Ali Khairalla, and Croatian opposite Tomislav Mitrasinovic.
Group A features Al Suwaihli of Libya, Al Salam from Oman, and Bani Yas from the UAE; Group B is composed of Al Seeb of Oman, Kuwait SC of Kuwait, Al Hilal of Libya, and Zamalek from Egypt; and Group D includes Gaza SC of Palestine, Burgan SC of Kuwait, Qatar SC of Qatar, and Al Jazira Club of the UAE.
