Manama - Bahrain’s national team secured a 3-2 victory over Oman in the opening match of the Gulf Friendship Futsal Championship for the Deaf, hosted by the Bahrain Deaf Sports Federation. The tournament features teams from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, and Qatar.
The first half ended goalless with strong defensive tactics, but in the second half, Sayed Sajjad Isa Al Wadaei scored three consecutive goals. Oman narrowed the gap with a goal by Marwan Salmani.
In another match, the UAE defeated Qatar 22-1 in a one-sided game.
The championship’s opening ceremony was held at Khalifa Sports City, attended by Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Paralympic Committee.
Shaikh Mohammed bin Duaij expressed pride in hosting the event, highlighting its role in promoting sports for the deaf and commending the Bahrain Deaf Sports Federation for organising the championship.
He emphasised the importance of such events in building players' confidence and integrating them into society.
He also commended the Bahrain’s General Sports Authority for its support.
