GOLF – HACKERS Two were the top team yesterday while Al Hawaj remained the overall leaders in the championship flight after day two of the 25th AMH Island Classic, being held at the private golf course of His Majesty King Hamad in Saffriya.
The high-profile, three-day event, being held in its 25th year, is taking place under the royal patronage of His Majesty, and it aims to raise funds for the community outreach programmes of American Mission Hospital (AMH).
Following a stellar kick-off on the first day Thursday, the teams gracing the course were poised for another round of exhilarating golf, eagerly anticipating the continuation of the favourable weather conditions that have set the stage for remarkable play.
Hackers Two topped the leaderboard for the day in the championship flight, featuring an average handicap of six or under, finishing ahead of Royal Golf Club Two.
In the premier flight, featuring teams with an average handicap of 6.1 or over, RCSI Two were the toppers, classified ahead of How’s My Driving Call 999. Third were Awal.
After the second day of action, Hawaj stayed in the lead amongst championship flight teams. Hackers went to second place while third were AMH Amwaj.
In the premier flight, RCSI Two were leaders after day two, How’s My Driving Call 999 are second, and Awal are in third place heading into today’s final day of play.
Amongst the side contests after day two, Saleh Ali Eid for Mohammed Jalal Catering stayed as winner for closest to the pin on hole two, Rashid Saleh Ali of Hawaj for most accurate drive on hole eight, and Zuzar Modarwala of NBB One for longest putt on hole four.
The full field of teams that took part in yesterday’s events were US-Bah One, Awali Hospital, VGA Team One, VGA Team Two, Radian, RCSI Two, KHAMH One, Royal Golf Club Two, NBB One, AMH Amwaj Two, E K Kanoo One, Royal Golf Club Three, Hackers Two, Bahrain This Month One, Chuckers, How’s My Driving Call 999, AMH Manama Two, KHAMH Two, Awal, and GDN Online.
Action continues today with the final day of action. Prizes for the championship flight and premier flight will be presented to the winning teams at an event to be held at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa on Thursday.
