Popular actor Hasan Youssef, who left his mark on Egyptian cinema from 60s to the 80s, has died at the age of 90, his brother Mohammed has announced.
Mohammed said on his Facebook account, "To God we belong, and to Him we shall return. My older brother, the artist Hassan Youssef, passed away a short while ago. May God have mercy on him."
Hasan has given memorable performances in many films and made 15 films with the famous Egyptian actress Soad Hosny, all box office hits.
He also acted in several dramatic series in the early 1980s, including ‘Dalia the Egyptian’, opposite the famous Egyptian actor Salah Zulfikar, and featuring actress Madiha Salem as Dalia.
He featured in the famous dramatic series ‘Layali El Helmeya’ in the mid-1980s.
He also presented several television and theatrical works, the most famous of which was his role in the series ‘Layali El-Helmeya’ and his role in the series ‘Imam El-Duat’ about the life story of Shaikh Muhammad Metwally El-Shaarawy.
He was among the five Egyptian cinema figures honoured at the 20th National Cinema Festival held in October 2016 in Egypt.
In January 2024, he announced his retirement from acting following the drowning death of his son Abdullah in 2023.
