HORSERACING – DILAWAR took an impressive win yesterday in a top international horserace in Europe, competing for Bahrain’s Victorious Racing, owned by His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Supreme Council for Youth and Sport chairman Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Running in the Grand Prix des Provinces (13th Etape Defi Du Galop) Listed Race at Bordeaux Le Bouscat in France, Dilawar won after nine-and-a-half furlongs for trainer C and Y Lerner, with jockey Stephane Ladjadj in the saddle.
The seven-year-old posted a winning time of two minutes 06.79 seconds in the race.
Dilawar finished narrowly ahead of runner-up Bevan, competing for owners Mme Steeavie Doussot, Giuliano Loggia Et Al (Bevan), trainer L Gadbin, and jockey Alexis Pouchin; while Monty came third for Mme R Ades and Ecurie Ades Hazan, A Schutz, and Christophe Soumillon.
There were 10 runners in all in the event.
