The United States has granted Qatar entry into its Visa Waiver programme (VWP). This landmark decision will allow Qatari citizens to travel to the US for tourism or business purposes for up to 90 days without requiring a visa.
Qatar is the first Arab nation to be granted this privilege.
In a joint statement released on Tuesday, the US and Qatar announced that the visa waiver will take effect no later than December 1, once the Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) is updated.
In a reciprocal move, Qatar will also ease travel restrictions for American citizens. Beginning October 1, U.S. passport holders can visit Doha and stay for up to 90 days, an extension from the previous 30-day limit.
