His Majesty King Hamad has emphasised that Bahrain remains a model of tolerance and pluralism and a hub for intercultural dialogue, in line with its national values and longstanding traditions rooted in the principles of Islam.
This came as the King sent a cable of congratulations to King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence (KHGC) board of trustees chairman Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, following the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of Bahrain’s initiative to designate January 28 as International Day for Peaceful Coexistence.
The King expressed pride in the international achievement, which reflects the global recognition of the kingdom’s leadership in promoting tolerance and coexistence among nations.
“This achievement underscores Bahrain’s position in humanitarian efforts and its role in advancing a noble civilisational message based on the principles of human fraternity,” he said.
The King also commended the efforts of Dr Shaikh Abdulla and all members of the KHGC in fostering a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
His Majesty received a congratulatory cable from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, on the UN General Assembly’s adoption of January 28 as International Day for Peaceful Coexistence.
He said the UN’s endorsement of Bahrain’s initiative reflects an international recognition of the kingdom’s leading role in fostering tolerance and coexistence and charting a noble civilisational message to promote human fraternity.
He sent a cable of thanks to Dr Shaikh Abdulla in response to his congratulatory cable.
Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla said that the UN General Assembly’s recognition reflects Bahrain’s leadership in promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
He highlighted the support of His Majesty and HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in advancing tolerance and openness and rejecting hatred and extremism.
The GDN earlier reported that the resolution invited UN member states, international organisations, civil society, and the media to mark the significant day with meaningful activities and initiatives that reflect its spirit.
It also called on member states to intensify their efforts in advancing peace and sustainable development, leveraging the observance of international, regional, and national days to unite the global community in building a more harmonious and prosperous world.
The UN secretary-general has been entrusted with disseminating the resolution to ensure widespread global awareness and engagement.
