HORSERACING – ZAYER, racing for Bahraini owner Ebrahim Al Afoo, triumphed yesterday while setting a new course record in an international horserace in the UK.
Ridden by renowned British jockey Hollie Doyle, Archie Watson-trained Zayer won the British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes at Ripon Racecourse.
Doyle had the two-year-old run strong from the start and went clear of the race’s five-horse field inside the final 110 yards. They completed the race with a comfortable victory and set a new track record of 57.11 seconds over five furlongs.
They finished two-and-three-quarter lengths ahead of runner-up Reservardo, competing for owner Mohammed Sultan, trainers Simon and Ed Crisford, and jockey Silvestre De Sousa. Kullazain took third place for Sheikh Juma Dalmook Al Maktoum, James Tate, and Rossa Ryan.
“He’s a really nice horse, I’ve always thought highly of him,” said Doyle, who made it 100 winners for the year with Zayer.
